When light enters your skin, your mitochondria absorb the light and produce more energy, which helps the cells repair.
What are the benefits of red light therapy?
Research on the benefits of red light therapy is ongoing. While more research is needed, there is some evidence that it may be useful in solving some health and beauty issues.
Red light therapy for dementia
A 2021 research review found that red light therapy had benefits for people with dementia in all 10 studies included in the review. In one of the studies, five people with dementia had better memory,
better sleep quality and were less angry after receiving regular light therapy on their head and nose for 12 weeks.
The review noted that many of the studies were small and uncontrolled, and larger trials would be needed to confirm any benefit.
Red light therapy for pain
Red light therapy may help relieve certain types of pain, particularly pain caused by inflammation (irritation and swelling of body tissue).
A review of 11 studies on the effects of red light therapy on pain found that most results were positive,
but the authors said more research is needed. In another small study, patients with temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) experienced reduced pain, clicking, and jaw tenderness after red light therapy
